Dental veneers are thin porcelain structures that are expertly bonded onto the front surface of your teeth to enhance their appearance. These custom-made shells can create a flawless, natural-looking smile, effectively addressing issues such as discolouration, chips, or minor misalignments.
One key benefit of dental veneers is their strength; they are almost as strong as natural teeth. Unlike crowns, which require more significant removal of the tooth structure, veneers are less invasive, preserving more of your natural teeth while still providing durable and long-lasting results. With proper care, veneers not only provide a stunning aesthetic result but also maintain the health and longevity of your teeth.
Pete had long been unhappy with his smile, despite his dentist assuring him that his teeth were “fine.” This dissatisfaction affected his daily life, leading him to avoid smiling for years. He had a significant overbite, stained restorations on his front teeth, and wear from a heavy bite. Although he quit smoking 14 years ago and doesn’t drink, his teeth still showed signs of past habits.
Motivated by a desire for a “movie star” smile—natural but striking—Pete sought a full makeover to regain his confidence. After losing trust in his previous dentist, he pursued a new treatment plan that included a short course of braces, teeth whitening, minor gum recontouring, and five upper front veneers matched to his natural teeth. The result was a transformed smile that finally allowed him to smile freely and confidently.
Discoloured front teeth
These front teeth were previously restored and heavily picking up staining that couldn’t be improved with polishing.
Deep overbite
Pete’s 4 front teeth overlapped his lower teeth more than ideal. This very heavy bite wasn’t ideal and was causing wear to the back teeth as well as trauma to the palate.

Your questions answered
With proper care, porcelain dental veneers can last between 10 to 15 years or even longer. They are highly durable and resistant to staining, though regular maintenance and good oral hygiene are essential to maximise their lifespan.
Dental veneers are a great option for many people, but they may not be suitable for everyone. Your dentist will evaluate your oral health, discuss your goals, and determine if veneers are the best choice for you. Factors such as tooth decay, gum disease, or significant bite issues may need to be addressed before considering veneers.
The process of getting dental veneers is generally not painful. The procedure involves minimal tooth preparation and is typically performed under local anesthesia if needed. Any discomfort experienced afterward is usually mild and temporary.
Yes, dental veneers are designed to look natural and blend seamlessly with your existing teeth. They are custom-made to match the colour, shape, and size of your natural teeth, ensuring a natural and aesthetically pleasing result.
Caring for dental veneers is similar to caring for natural teeth. Regular brushing with a non-abrasive toothpaste, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist for routine check-ups will help maintain the health and appearance of your veneers. Avoiding hard or sticky foods can also help prevent damage.
The cost of dental veneers at Hampshire Dentists varies considerably depending on the extent of the treatment. As a rough guide a dental implant typically starts at £950 per tooth.
