Specialist Orthodontist (Self Employed)
Location: Hampshire Dentists – Southampton Carlton Crescent
Position: Part-time (initially 1 day per week)
Preferred days: Monday, Thursday or Friday
Contract: Self-employed associate
Practice type: Fully private
About Hampshire Dentists
Hampshire Dentists is a well-established, fully private practice with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care in a modern, technology-enabled environment.
We are now seeking a Specialist Orthodontist (MOrth or equivalent) to join our multidisciplinary team and play a key role in rebuilding and growing our orthodontic service.
This is a long-term opportunity for a clinician who values clinical excellence, enjoys working with patients and families, and is motivated to develop a successful private orthodontic list within a supportive practice.
The Opportunity
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of orthodontics within the practice and grow it into a key service.
- Start with 1 day per week (Monday or Friday)
- Grow to 2–4 days as demand increases
- Build a sustainable, high-quality orthodontic list over time
The practice previously generated a strong flow of orthodontic enquiries through internal referrals and marketing. While this activity was paused, we are now relaunching and focusing on orthodontic growth, supported by internal systems and team structure.
You will not be expected to walk into a full diary — instead, this role suits a clinician who is confident in building relationships, presenting treatment well, and growing demand steadily.
Patient Flow & Support
You will be supported by a structured patient journey and multiple sources of demand:
- Internal referrals from GDPs, hygienists and therapists
- Existing patients requiring orthodontic assessment or retention
- Relaunch of internal and inbound marketing activity
- A Treatment Coordinator (TCO) to support consultations and case acceptance
- Front of house and clinical team aligned to deliver a high-quality patient experience
Clinical Scope
The role will focus on specialist orthodontic care, including:
- Fixed orthodontic appliances (core focus)
- Adult orthodontics (key patient group)
- Teengage, tween and childrens orthodontics
- Clear aligner therapy (Invisalign and Angel Aligners)
- Interdisciplinary treatment planning with restorative colleagues
An interest in cosmetic dentistry, including composite bonding and aesthetic finishing, would be advantageous, particularly following orthodontic treatment.
About You
We are looking for a clinician who:
- Is GDC registered with a recognised postgraduate qualification in orthodontics (MOrth or equivalent)
- Has strong experience in traditional orthodontics, particularly fixed appliances
- Is confident using aligner systems such as Invisalign and Angel Aligners where appropriate
- Comfortable treating a high proportion of teenage and young adult patients, building trust with patients and parents
- Has excellent communication and consultation skills
- Is confident in discussing treatment options and supporting patients to make informed decisions
- Can present a strong portfolio of orthodontic cases
- Works well within a collaborative multidisciplinary team
- Is motivated to grow and develop a private orthodontic service
Clinical Philosophy
We are looking for a clinician who values:
- High-quality orthodontic outcomes and excellent finishing
- Ethical, patient-first treatment planning
- Clear, confident and supportive communication
- Building long-term patient relationships
- Working as part of a cohesive and supportive team
Technology & Environment
- TRIOS intra-oral scanner
- Digital radiography
- Intra-oral photography
- Digital treatment planning tools
- SOE (Exact) software
- Fully private, modern clinical environment
What Success Looks Like (12 Months)
- A consistent flow of orthodontic patients from internal referrals and marketing
- A structured diary with a mix of Teen, tween and children’s orthodontics
- Strong case acceptance supported by the TCO
- High-quality clinical outcomes and positive patient feedback
- Growing demand allowing an increase in clinical days
Who This Role Will Suit
This opportunity is ideal for a Specialist Orthodontist who:
- Enjoys working with teenagers, families and adult patients
- Is comfortable building a patient list over time rather than expecting a full diary immediately
- Values quality over volume
- Has strong interpersonal and consultation skills
- Wants to be part of a long-term, growth-focused practice
Remuneration & Contract
- Self-employed associate agreement
- Competitive percentage-based remuneration
- Initial 1 day per week, with opportunity to expand from 2 to 4 days.
- Clinical autonomy within a supportive structure
