Types of dentures
Acrylic dentures are made of a natural looking pink plastic base. They are cost-effective and can be quick and simple to make. Additional teeth can be added to them overtime if required.
Despite this some people find they can be more unstable and they can be fragile or easily broken.
Metal dentures also have a natural looking pink plastic holding the false teeth but this is attached to a metal base. Metal dentures can be made thinner if patients find acrylic dentures bulky and are stronger if you find your dentures break frequently.
With metal dentures attachments can be added to make the denture more retentive.
Flexible dentures attach false teeth to a base made of nylon which means they are less brittle. The use a natural looking pink plastic that is clear allowing your natural gum colour to show through.
Flexible dentures cling to the gums around teeth as so they don’t require denture adhesive or metal clasps to hold them in place. Often patients find this type of denture more comfortable and easier to adjust to.
Are there any alternatives?
Dental implants are fixed solutions that involve placing titanium posts into the jawbone to support artificial teeth, offering a natural look and feel with the benefit of preserving jawbone health.
Dental bridges use neighbouring teeth as anchors to fill gaps left by missing teeth, providing a stable and fixed option.
You may wish to consider these options if you would prefer to avoid a removable option.

Your questions answered
Dentures are an effective, affordable solution for replacing multiple missing teeth, restoring your smile, and improving your ability to eat and speak comfortably.
Your dentist will assess the situation to see if you are suitable for dentures and the best approach. At the initial examination your dentist may decide that it is necessary to remove other teeth to allow the dentures to fit and work correctly. It is also possible that your dentist may advise hygiene treatment on the gums to make sure they are up to a good standard for the procedure to work well.
A mould will be taken of your mouth that will then go to a dental technician. Over a few appointments the dentures will be custom made to your specific requirements, with teeth and gum colour chosen to match any existing teeth and the contours of the denture formed to fit inside the mouth perfectly.
As you get used to your new denture we will support you with follow up visits and any adjustments you may need.
Dentures require attention to fit, comfort, and maintenance. If you’re new to wearing dentures, it may take time to adjust, and periodic adjustments may be needed to keep them comfortable as your mouth naturally changes overtime.
The natural suction force within the mouth should keep the dentures in place. However, sometimes they may come loose while eating; for this, there are a number of fixing gels and creams that are available. If you are struggling with dentures moving your may wish to explore the option of using implants to stabilise your dentures.
The cost of dentures can vary widely depending on the number of teeth being replaced and the materials used. Our dentures can start from £624 for a simple partial denture to £1200 to replace all of your teeth with a complete denture.
