“I went to many dentists to get this pain sorted with an emergency treatment, but no one would have taken care of me… Hampshire Dentists’ team were the only one who accepted me the same day I presented there! …Thank you guys, you literally saved me!

We’re proud to feature real patients and their genuine transformations on this website, all done voluntarily. A heartfelt thank you to our Hampshire Dentists superstars.

There’s nothing worse than tooth pain. We should know, we’ve seen so many people in distress and do everything we can to help to soothe, support and end the suffering. Hampshire Dentists are at hand for dental emergencies in Southampton.

We’ll endeavour to see you on the same day.

What dental emergencies can we help you with?

Toothache

If you’re experiencing a toothache, it could be due to decay, infection, or trauma, often causing throbbing pain or sensitivity to hot and cold. It’s important to seek urgent treatment to prevent the issue from worsening.

At Hampshire Dentists, we can diagnose the cause and provide temporary relief, such as pain management, providing a temporary filling or antibiotics. We’ll can also arrange for long-term care, whether it’s a filling, root canal, or another restorative solution to fully resolve the issue.

In the meantime, rinsing with warm salt water, taking pain relief, and avoiding the affected area may help ease discomfort.

Swelling

Swelling in your mouth or face often indicates an infection or abscess, potentially causing facial swelling or a tender lump in your gums. It requires immediate attention to prevent the infection from spreading.

At Hampshire Dentists, we can provide temporary relief by draining the abscess or prescribing antibiotics to reduce discomfort. We will then plan long-term treatment to address the root cause, such as performing a root canal, extraction or further infection control.

In the meantime, applying a cold compress and taking over-the-counter pain medication can help manage swelling and discomfort before your appointment.

Loose crown or bridge

If you have a loose crown or bridge, it’s important to address it promptly to protect the underlying tooth from decay or damage. We can temporarily re-cement or stabilise the crown or bridge to safeguard the exposed tooth. We will also arrange a follow-up to determine whether a replacement or more permanent solution is needed for long-term protection.

In the meantime, avoid chewing on that side, keep the area clean, and store the crown or bridge in a safe place if it comes off until your appointment.

Broken tooth

A broken tooth may result from trauma, grinding, or biting something hard and you might notice chips, cracks, or fractures along with pain or sensitivity. Seeking prompt care is crucial to prevent infection or further damage. We can provide an immediate fix, such as a temporary filling or protective covering and arrange for long-term care, which may involve a definitive filling or bonding a crown to fully restore the tooth’s appearance and function.

In the meantime, rinse your mouth gently, apply a cold compress, and avoid chewing on the affected side.

Knocked out tooth

A knocked-out tooth from an accident is a dental emergency that requires immediate action to maximise the chances of saving it. If the tooth has been completely dislodged we can attempt to reimplant the tooth and stabilise it or provide temporary solutions to manage pain and protect the area while arranging for long-term care to ensure the best outcome.

For immediate care, handle the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently, and store it in milk or saliva until you can see us.

Wisdom tooth pain

Wisdom tooth pain is unfortunately common, often causing discomfort, swelling and sometimes difficulty opening your jaw. If left untreated, this can lead to infections or damage to nearby teeth. We can provide short-term relief with pain management or antibiotics if an infection is present and offer long-term solutions, such as extraction or other procedures, to prevent future discomfort and complications.

In the meantime, try to keep the area as clean as possible, consider using warm saltwater rinses and over-the-counter pain relievers can help manage the pain.

Hear from our patients

Emergency Dentist - Hampshire Dentists Pain Free Dentist in Southampton

The people here are absolutely amazing. I needed an emergency appointment to resolve an infection in my lower jawline and they were able to fit me in the same day despite me coming from another county. The orthodontist was clear and sensitive about the pain I was in and they issued anti-biotics to help start the resolution to the problem.

Emergency Dentist - Hampshire Dentists Pain Free Dentist in Southampton

I would like to give my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the amazing, warm-hearted team at Hampshire dentists. Needing an emergency appointment whilst 100 miles from home and caring for a very poorly child in intensive care I phoned up and explained my situation. From the start they did everything to accommodate me and found me a slot within a couple of hours despite being incredibly busy. I was treated with such care, gentleness and compassion by Robin during my visit, a true calling. His kindness went way beyond the call of duty and I will always feel indebted to him and his wonderful team. If I didn’t live so far away this would be the dentist of my choice who I would recommend to everyone
